I haven't used dolphin in a while now, only got back into it yesterday actually, but I did notice a bit of slowdown in twilight princess in areas where it didn't occur before. but that's why I use two versions of dolphin. I keep the latest stable version with a filename of said version (dolphin402.exe), and the dev version kept to the default name so every time I download and use the latest version, it just overwrites the old dev version, but stable version is still there when I need it. I wouldn't be surprised if its an issue with a dev version. try a stable version of dolphin and see if you still have the issue. I do know the logging issue occurs in both stable and dev versions though, but your issue sounds like something else, so most likely cuz its dev version, which can be known to cause lag or bugs in other places.

The 1080 issue was due to auto frame-rate limiting in Dolphin. If it was set to Auto, my frame-rate dips down to 75%. But if I unlock my frame-rate then it hits easily 250% in the same spot it was at 75%.

Anyway, I left the cap off and tried testing menus and other easy setup locations with the logging on and the logging off. I can't say I saw any difference sadly. 1080 still stutters heavily at different points. Most notably when your character gets covered in snow, it stutters pretty hard. Otherwise it was good.

You are correct. A debug function is being skipped if that log is disabled. I think it's not relevant to non-debug builds, maybe it should be disabled entirely in that case.

edit: https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/878 should fix it.

878 has been closed. https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/880 should fix it.

Cool. Well it does seem to increase performance in some areas. I've tried playing a few games other than what I mentioned before to see any difference but so far haven't found anything else seriously affected. Is it the only log that has a debug function when enabled? If not I'd like to mess around with other games and see if enabling/disabling certain logs might fix or affect performance. Does the debugging function have to be enabled when its just logging the file monitor?

Since all the frequent revisions are for development purposes anyway, maybe just ignore this and keep it enabled for future Dev builds, and just disable it on next stable release for the end user? I would think it might be an extra hassle for anyone actually using it for development if its turned off.

It's all logs, but it would just be off by default. We testers can always just, turn it on.

Only if the log is spammed by an error message/warning performance was seriously affected, so unless a game got spammed by an error in it's log it wouldn't seriously affect performance.
