I've tired it on like 3 games and regardless of settings, it doesn't work...

I'd imagine it'd be faster for those with good graphics cards, kinda how like GDsx is good for people with fast CPU's in PCSX2, and ZeroGS plugin is better for ones with a fast GPU.

Is it just there for the sake of it, or do any games actually make use of it?

The thing is, OpenGL support for NVIDIA's recent cards is beyond poor, showing that a 6800 GT would get better OpenGL scores than a 8800 GT or better.

It is an old plugin, only use is if your gpu doesnt support opengl 2.1 but even if you have to use it you wont get anywhere near 1/2 speed so it isnt even worth it

8800 supports ogl 3.0, whereas 6800 only supports 2.0. the dx plugin is old and outdated, and all development went into the ogl plugin due to it being more widely supported than dx. currently, the admins are looking for devs to continue work on the dx plugin.

not everyone has a windows based pc. opengl is supported in every major operating system, whereas directx is currently only supported in windows.
