December 21, 2012 = End of the world?

The only I heard of possible 2012 doom that isn't religious, was that the solar system will enter the galaxy's strongest field of gravity in that year. (The galaxy's spin means that gravity is centered on a 2D plane, hence the galaxy being almost flat regarding orbits around it's center)
If this will really cause any problems scientists aren't sure.
