Some players need AR codes to connect to private servers, but you can only do that if you have an old AR that allows entering codes manually. There are plenty of malicious cheats to crash other users' games, but nobody does that anymore. If you're still interested in a decade-old game, it's probably because you want to actually play it, rather than cheat on it.
When it comes to other games, now people are starting to get interested in using AR codes to make GC games run at 60 FPS and such, but you'd need an old AR for stuff like that, too.
