Thanks for the help.  I had thought of doing something similar but the problem is that there are all those copies of the texture with slightly different math.  That seemed more like an error to me, after all it doesn't make much sense to have 40 copies of an identical texture like that.  And I would need to edit all of them?  And thats just what I dumped in a couple hours of play..


Now that you've seen the files, don't you think its possible there is some bug dumping that texture?

It's possible that it's a bug, I wouldn't rule that out especially since most of them are the same, and only the "pieces" are different and only by a few pixels. The pieces might not even be used, you would have to test them in-game. If there is a finite number of them (54 so far), then retexturing them all should work. If you keep dumping 100s of them, then could be a bug, or it could just be the way the Wii stores them in the TEV, or the differences with the Dolphin texture cache (Skies of Arcadia has a similar issue with EFB to RAM). How they are dumped/loaded may change based on whether or not "Store EFB Copies to Texutre Only" is checked.

I can only speculate, only a dev familiar with this stuff would know for sure.

Yeah I went and drew ilttle numbers on the button faces on the 10 copies it dumped in one battle.  Now when I do a battle it will do maybe, numbers 5 and 7.  Then another time it will use number 4 and 3 and never show 5 and 7. Seems to be completely random and the textures are identical.

Bummer because I had heard that the guy doing the new paper mario texture pack was switching to Dolphin but it looks like it might not be possible with this issue.

There's also a ton of these like "rainbow static" textures being dumped, either the whole texture looks like it or only portions of a texture will have it. I don't normally do dumping so I wasn't sure if that was usual or not.  I was just interested in retexturing the buttons anyway.

Hi, is it possible to texture through DDS and PNG? I tried that with Alpha Channel and all I am is getting a black texture instead of see-through. I remember I did this long ago and was able to make it transparent on the game. Just wanting to go back to modding again.

Should be able to, all you have to do is add an Alpha Channel then select the area you want to be transparent and just delete the selection, it will be transparent then.

Still showing black when saved in DDS DXT5 and white when saved in DXT1.

What is the texture you're working with? It should work if your using the latest of the ps tool and dds files and image magick.

Thanks Techie for the response, I forgot to mention, the game is Soul Calibur 2, and what I'm trying to do is making a test alpha channel of removing Mitsurugi's cigarette. Problem is when I use DXT5, it gives me a "black image" and yes I do have the latest PS tool, dds file and image magick. Also I notice when I use PNG, it comes out the same thing but comes out white instead.

Did the original texture have transparency? If not, the image will usually show up black when loaded into the game. Applying transparency to opaque textures does not make the object it is wrapped around transparent.

Not really, the original texture never had transparency, if that's the case, then looks like we solved it, just to have to wait until the tool gets more develop in time. .
