I figured. It's the only thing that would explain those temps.

While it does seem plausible it is still just a rumor at this point.
Edit: Nope. It looks like it's already been confirmed. Scratch that. Edit 2: Also apparently broadwell has been delayed to 2015. This means AMD might have a chance to catch up if they can get their shit together for once.

8 Cores for real ?
So a normal i7 Broadwell mobile chip will have 6 cores and extreme edition will have 8 cores . Just kidding Laptop: Mini PC :: 06-17-2013, 11:38 AM

That could actually happen considering it's a die shrink. It took two years for us to go from dual core to quad core chips. We've been sitting at quad core for 6 years now. Broadwell is another 2 years away. It's time. The main reason Intel hasn't done it is because of how few consumer grade apps can efficiently use more than 4 cores. Instead they've focused on improving the microarchitecture to boost clock rates, boost IPC, and lower power consumption. Which has been far more important.
I'm willing to bet that the upcoming steamroller based FX chips from AMD will have 5 modules (10 cores) for the top of the line models.
