So far so good, no black screen issues or defaulting to native IR issues either. Tested on OpenGL.
Correct aspect ratio option?

D3D is not fixed yet, it should be in next update
*Edit: Okay, should be fixed now =) 07-27-2015, 02:24 PM
Direct3D crashes on GC firmware (it's not a BIOS guys!) screen. Seems to work if you skip loading firmware though.

If Dolphin were already using NTSC aspect ratios, it would be scaling the game output the way a console would, and there would be no AR problems. I thought the whole point of the changes was to implement that scaling factor so that the GC games that don't use the GC's full resolution would scale correctly and no longer be distorted. 07-28-2015, 01:48 AM

This is correct however, the GC outputs a NTSC/PAL signal but some games do not use the full NTSC/PAL frame hence them being at a different aspect ratio with letterboxing. Dolphin assumes all games use the full NTSC/PAL 4:3/16:9 frame when they don't thus causing stretching. 07-28-2015, 04:55 AM
Dolphin currently forces everything to 4:3/16:9, ignoring output resolution, letter/pillarboxing, as well as VI scaling, so all of that was screwing up the aspect ratios.
And yes, it fixes the Rogue Leader cutscenes =) 07-28-2015, 05:23 AM
Is it correct to say that these changes have no effect on the games that use the full NTSC/PAL frame? If it fixes the AR of games that didn't use the full GC output resolution while having no effect on the games that were already displaying with the correct AR, then I wouldn't think there would be any problem with having this behaviour enabled all the time. (Widescreen hacks are another story, as if the old codes were made while ignoring Dolphin's distorted AR, then someone needs to make new codes to take the correct AR into account; i.e. it isn't Dolphin's responsibility to provide workarounds for faulty 16:9 hacks.)

If a game used the full frame, then I think you are correct. However I have never known any game to actually use the whole frame, so that is kind of a moot point
If the old widescreen hacks didn't try to fix any of the AR issues listed above (probably most of them TBH) , then they should work fine with the new settings, and in fact be much more accurate. More involved ones (like mine for melee) will need to be altered, because they were already performing the AR corrections that dolphin wasn't, and having dolphin perform those changes now will mean that the aspect ratio changes are being compensated for twice. |
