Even though it has been said several times now I will repeat it again:

You can either choose to listen to us or you can choose to regret it later. We have already told you what you need to know. Either you didn't read the posts in this thread or you choose to ignore them.

oh, I wasn't trying to disrespect your opinion. I'm merely stating I could fork out 80 bucks for a q6600, provided you guys didn't think it was dumb to buy used hardware. but I'd like having a quad for some of the CPU intense apps/games I run.

I'd love to just go i7. but that wont be happening any time soon :[

you have to be sure it wasn't overclocked though...or it used proper cooling and didn't overheat. Even there stressing components when overclocking can shorten the lifespan...

my 2nd PC could still be upgraded with a Toledo-core Athlon 64 X2 Socket 939, maybe a 4400+ but then these parts are quite hard to find on Ebay, and by that i mean those who are actually WILLING to send outside USA...

but yes...newer parts mean less expensive most of the time. So get it before it get more expensive. (i know it's ridiculous, but more rare mean peoples doesn't want to spend 1000$+ for a new PC so they will spend like 100-150$ for an obsolete-but-still-useful upgrade, the best example is the brand-new RAM pricings).

I wasn't in the Core2 era as i had an AMD processor before, but i heard the Q6600 is good, if you can trust the seller when he/she said it was barely used or never overclocked, try to have the receipt along with it, as a warranty protection in case, and if the part is still on warranty... (you never know, maybe it was bought a year ago in a specialized PC parts store, some peoples like to upgrade often!)
My PC specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit | PSU: Corsair TX650W | Board: Asus P7P55D-E LX | CPU: Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.73Ghz | CPU Heatsink: Prolimatech Megahalems rev.B + Nexus 120mm fan | Memory: 4 x 2gb G.Skill DDR3-1600 | Video: eVGA Geforce GTX 560 Ti 1gb | HDD: Western Digital WD10EALS

I wouldn't sink more money into your system because it is pretty good for what it is. The $80 q6600 may not overclock to 3.4Ghz meaning you'd be better off with what you have. In short, it'd be dumb for you to buy the q6600, as that'd make the i7 that much longer to save up for.

I just think it's weird that you had several different posts from people telling you that anything short of an i7 upgrade would be a waste. Including some posts specifically referencing the q6600 and e8400 as being a waste of money for you. And then you post saying you found a cheap q6600 on ebay and ask if you should buy it? That gave me a wtf moment.

So I'll repeat it again. If you want to buy it for other things like video encoding sure, but for dolphin it won't make any difference. Getting a Q6600 past 3.2GHz is hard. And your core 2 duo at 3.4GHz will perform identically with a q6600 @ 3.2GHz. It would literally be like throwing money into a garbage can. Just take solace in the fact that nearly all of us here are in the same situation as you.
