I'm trying to play Super Mario Galaxy 2 through dolphin, and i'm wondering if there is any way to smooth it out a bit. Some times the game seems to be running wonderfully, but most of the time, there are FPS drops i suppose that make the game feel a bit sluggish(not good for platforming.)

My Specs:
win7 64bit
C2D e6750 @ 3.4ghz
4GB Gskill Ram
gtx470
creative audigy sound blaster 2 ZS

I'm running the game in DX11 gfx plugin w/ 1x AF. I used to run it in Dx9 with what seemed like better performance, but now for some reason DX9 plugin wont let me go fullscreen (it just turns black on alt+enter).

Can anyone throw me some tips? like why i can't run in dx9 fullscreen? or why I can't get the game buttery smooth? Shouldnt this system be capable?

For the DX9 full screen issue, check the resolution that is configured under the Configuration -> Display tab.

SMG2 won't run full speed in your machine. I have a similar speed CPU and I am getting 60% speed or 40fps.. that is what you are getting, right?

Well... it varies... a lot of the time I get 60fps. On mario's ship (which seems to be resource intensive) sometimes it'll drop as low as 38. but averaging around 52fps on the ship. I just read somewhere that you can disable fog in some games to help, i'll check and see if that helps.

So does dolphin not make use of the GTX470? or are you just saying your specs are similar and it just wont run good? I think i can push my CPU as far as 3.6 but thus far i've been keeping it at 3.4ghz.

EDIT: After disabling fog, my fps hasn't dropped below 45. But 45 makes it slightly sluggish :[ however it did seem to help (though this is merely quick observation, without any data recording going on).

another EDIT: Do you think pushing my CPU to 3.6 would benefit me? I haven't done this yet because I didn't feel any need to... I can fully max games like Bad Company 2 at 1080p with 50+ FPS. and pretty much any other games...

I think you'd need the Core i7 or i5 to get 60 fps on that game.

Thats what I feared :p Thanks for the heads up. I'm too broke to build an entire new system, i've just been pushing this one as far as I can.

/jealous

Which one is it? I doubt it would make sense for me to upgrade just my processor. If I put any more money in i'd like to go i7 (even though it would be far more costly than a core2quad)

and what GPU do you have? Does Dolphin benefit more from CPU? or GPU?

Definitely CPU. Your GTX470 is more than enough for dolphin.

i'll try that game soon, but yes...i have a Core i5 750 @ 2.73Ghz, 8gb DDR3-1600, with a mere GTS 250 512mb DDR3 256-bit, and F-Zero GX run fine, Muramasa is almost flawless (get to 98% speed sometimes for a fraction of second, but you barely notice that while playing, but there are a few graphics glitches that would need to be fixed). So far, most games i played with are slow because of codes need to be improved and stuff that need to be fixed for this game.

So yes, i would say your GPU (GTX 470) is very overpowered for the CPU you have (i don't see how DX11 cards can benefit graphically for Wii and GC games, apart of speed maybe), to balance that, you might need one like mine or a i7 of some sort. do you have fast RAM also?
My PC specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit | PSU: Corsair TX650W | Board: Asus P7P55D-E LX | CPU: Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.73Ghz | CPU Heatsink: Prolimatech Megahalems rev.B + Nexus 120mm fan | Memory: 4 x 2gb G.Skill DDR3-1600 | Video: eVGA Geforce GTX 560 Ti 1gb | HDD: Western Digital WD10EALS
