Hi

im planning on building a new pc within the next couple of months and im wondering if i should get the new phenom ii x6 1055 or a core i7 920. I will be OC the cpu i buy.

my question is which cpu will run games like SMG and zelda TP with higher frames.

One thing i dont want is benchmark scores and this is better than this for video encoding blah blah blah. im looking strictly at which cpu will emulate games on dolphin with higher fps.

DONT NOT TURN THIS INTO AN AMD INTEL WAR. if you do have one these processors please leave me avg fps in some of the more cpu intensive games such as SMG and zelda TP. also leave clock speed.

thanks and i hope u guys can leave me some good info

Intel I7 because it does more per clock cycle and overclocking head room is more.

@IcemanSR:

he was bothering to ask a legitimate question. perhaps you should learn basic english before you start ranting so aggressively. also, since when does an i7 920 cost $800? and why dollars?

@gilbertchris123:

i second the vote for i7, and i suspect most people on here that know what they're talking about will do the same. it simply has higher performance at the same clock speed than any phenom II in most programs, including dolphin. although i am running a phenom II myself @ 3.4ghz and believe (hope!) that it won't be too long before that's entirely sufficient for fullspeed for all games (that run!) on dolphin. but anyway yeah, an i7's a safer bet.

@turin what ever since i dont know basic english,u must be regular mind reader since u see something i do not.
U actually DARE to COMPARE i7 920 with phenom x6??
or your english sucks and u dont know BASIC of reading topic TITLE??He Asked about PHENOM II x6.ring a bell??
not to mention that intel i7 920 regular speed is 2.6ghz

and what difference does it make if i said in $ instead in ?what JEN?that bothers u maybe?

now what he wants is CPU never mind who made it,is to be 3ghz at least not OC-ed.

and it brings VALIDATION to my red letters.

if he has money for intel core which he can compare with Phenom II x6..Then why bloody bothering to ask?such intel cost no less then 800$

btw @turin what ever
get over it ,what ever u find repulsive in my English, this is internet after all.So u know where to stick it :-)

and here be a jack and by this end enjoy your self

Code:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=intel+core+i7+price&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=16414192150837865731&ei=l8sfTKuzPOCXOISAzf0L&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CCMQ8wIwAg#

that is intel I7 which is 800$ and that intel can eat phenom x6.

Lets by Phenom for 800$ (which does not exist)but for sake of argument and then compare speed tests lol!!!

Core i7 for sure! Dolphin only support up to 2 core utilization. So you want the individual cores to be as powerful as possible. Also considering overclocking Core i7 can overclock a lot better than AMD Phenom X6.

To give you an idea The AMD Phenoms clock in around 3.8GHz. Core i7's (920/930) come in at around 4.0GHz.

Also Clock for i7 vs Phenom X6, i7 is faster so pretty clear choice Big Grin

Good luck and congrats on the soon to be getting PC. =]

No, actually i7 920 4-core is stronger than phenom II x6 (1090T) but it costs $266. In most benchmarks it will be better, and in gaming benchmarks, about equal.

Note that for gaming performance, all phenom II processors are adequate.

With decent graphics card you will get full speed in games if you use a phenom II x4 or X6.

turn on the sound Tongue

Dolphin uses 3 cores btw Wink
(when you use the DSPLLE on thread option)

my phenom2 x4 940 @ 2,2ghz Northbridge and 3,4Ghz CPU is capable of ~40-50 FPS in F-Zero GX with LLE-Sound. (on most tracks)

at the moment the LLE-sound-part is broken...

a Phenom2 x6 1090T would be more than fast enough for the near future i think. (3 cores @ 3,6Ghz)
you don't need an intel.

PS: LLE sound (when fixed again) sounds so much better and mre clear than HLE sound... you wouldn't believe it ^^

PPS: when you buy an intel now(!) you will regret it - not because of AMD, but because of their mainboard politics.
their new CPUs are being released this year... and they will NOT fit into the i3/i5/i7 mainboards that are on the market now... (1155/1156)
