Hi

I have a core i7 cpu running at 3,2ghz and an ati radeon hd 4870 graphics card and 6gb triple channel ram. I run my roms from the harddrive, not from an usb stick or something.

But I have only about 15 to 20 fps in any game. I tried mario kart, excite truck and super smash bros brawl.

In mario cart the picture is very blurred. in Excite truck, there are black rectangles behind any text.

I have installed the newest ATI driver and the visual c++ 2008 redistributable package. My dolphin version is also the newest one. I have changed no settings since the installation, so all important settings are on the recommended value (like multicore support ist turned on).
I also noticed that the yellow text which appears when I start the emulation says that I have 16 cpu cores, but my i7 has only 4 real cores, 8 with hyperthreading. But not 16!

What can I do about that? My system should be fast enough.

Yours,
Christoph

PS: Sorry for my bad english, my native language is german.

Try looking out in the forum for topics about the games you tried to play, and check the configuration people used
=-)

In most cases d3d plug in runs a lot faster then opengl (but opengl is the default one).

By Your comment i believe you are running them with all default settings inside plugins.

Anyways, give a look in the settings around for some games you try and after 2/3 games u'll get pretty familiar with setting some stuff yourself.

Dolphin is not entirely optimised yet, even a powerful processor like yours may experience slowdown from time to time.

But the general config to get the best speed out of Dolphin is to Use Direct3D9 Plugin and enable EFB copy to texture. That alone can skyrocket your FPS.

Since he's on a i7 he needs to get the cores correct. Theres some threads that you need to disable the hyperthread 2nd core and have dolphin use 2 real i7 cores to make it use the full potential of the cpu. You should check with someone with a i7.

Thank you!!

I did what RupeeClock wrote, and now I have 60 fps!

Tomorrow I will have more time, then I will try to disable hyperthreading and try to control mario cart with my keyboard.

Thanks a lot!

Yours,
Christoph

Enable "Safe Texture Cache" in DX9 Plugin. If you're using a newer build, you can pick "Safe Texture Cache Mode: Fast". Works for me...
