I'm looking at recommending one for my parent's computer build.

so the 4340 has the 4600 and the 4130 has the 4400. Is the only difference clock speed of the iGPU part?

Oh? The 4130 and the 4340 have hyperthreading? I didn't know that Big Grin. Nice bonus.

Ahem, anyway, I don't really know the difference between the HD4400 and the HD4600. They are identical on ark.intel.com. Same clockspeeds and everything... Wikipedia doesn't explain it either. It must have more "execution units" or something. *shrug*

it looks like the difference between 4600 and 4400 is in the execution units.

4600 has 20.
4400 has 16.

And OGL 4.2 support (4600).

Thanks for the help. I picked up a Core i3 4340 and an ASRock Z87E-ITX. Its going in a mATX case at the moment, but will eventually end up in a Slim HTPC case (probably Silverstone ML06 with SFX powersupply).

For the time being, should I use the intel 4600 gfx or Radeon 5750 in the mATX case (until I get the new low profile case and low profile discrete card)?

You should pair a H81 mobo with it . i3 can't be overclocked , Z87 mobo is wasteful
Z87 mobo should be paired with i5 4670k

I actually have an i3-4340 and Radeon 7750 Asus H87i-Plus in a sff, mini-itx build...

Although I was able to play most games at 1x with the igpu HD4600, I can play everything I've tried pretty decently at 4x with the Radeon 7750.

I'm waiting/wishing for a single slot, low profile Maxwell GTX750

This is similar to what I am planning to do. Right now I am just in a mATX case I had laying around the house. So far, I am super impressed with the performance of this relatively inexpensive build.
With the radeon 5750 + core 4340, this little box is lapping my 2600K + Radeon 7750. I just wish there were other options for good low profile gfx cards.

Eventually, I plan to move the system up to something more powerful, where I will have/need to overclock. I would rather buy the motherboard once.
