Yeah I know it isn't a core issue, I just mentioned those with the other issues so I didn't have to post a new thread or reply.

Renamed the thread.
Just wanted to add that even at a full 30 FPS or 60 FPS depending on what is full speed for a particular game, there is a noticeable lagginess, jumpiness/jerkiness, stuttering with the graphics emulation although it's not as profound as when the framerates dips or jumps around. 11-02-2010, 06:39 AM
^ I've been noticing this since Dolphin Release Candidate 1 ^
But I thought this didnt happen to anyone else and I couldnt describe the problem cuz my english is not that good so I just waited lol ^^ Anyway thanks there Xtreme2damax XD
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit Creators Update
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960 @ 3.6 GHz Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-870A-USB3 AM3+ Revision RAM: HyperX 8GB Dual Channel @ 1600Mhz 11-02-2010, 03:38 PM
I noticed microstuttering while playing tp on recent revisions. So I started playing around with settings and sure enough turning off audio throttle and using fps for limiting at 30 fps (set it to 30 not auto) fixed it.
Are you talking about stuttering, microstuttering, fps dips, or something else?

It's hard to explain, but even at full speed it seems the game is micro-skipping, micro-stuttering, lagging, jerkiness. It's barely noticeable but noticeable nonetheless, like the game is using frame skip but it's not really frame skip, it's just not as smooth as it should be even at full speed.
Starfox Adventures seems to be the only game I know of so far that suffers from major stuttering and wildly fluctuating framerates. The game runs full speed, it's like the framerates will drop briefly and go back up to full speed and it constantly does this. Mario Kart Wii has stuttering issues, but only when the camera is circling around the track before the race starts. It seems like the emulated graphics hardware is bottlenecked somehow or just not quite optimized. 11-02-2010, 04:41 PM
I kinda have/had issues with Wind Waker and some other games like Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Sunshine, where Dolphin will report the FPS of the game to be 30 without any drops, but the actual performance that I see says otherwise. This is with frame skipping off, mind you, and audio throttling enabled.
The common thing between all these games that have problems like what I stated above is that they all run at a capped 30fps. Any, and I mean any game that runs at 60fps - will run without any dips at all, even with high quality video settings. For some reason, if a game is locked at a framerate that's maybe perhaps lower than the screen refresh rate, this is where the problems come in. Even with vsync disabled, however, I still encounter these problems. Just like many people, I also feel like older revisions performed better on at least the first party titles. I know that the obvious reason that's thrown around is "accuracy". But it doesn't feel like this is the effect of accuracy, just an effect of some sort of regression (either with the OS, the video drivers, etcetc) like Xtreme2damax said. To me, it's a common problem in all video plugins. While I do have a linux distro installed, I haven't tried Dolphin-emu on it in a long time. Either it's a driver issue with Nvidia or the Operating System, I'm not sure what could be causing the problem. It's something that's prevented me from actually enjoying games with the emulator, because I'm constantly experimenting with settings and looking for things worthy to create issues for. 11-03-2010, 02:54 AM
Quote:like the game is using frame skip but it's not really frame skip, it's just not as smooth as it should be even at full speed. That's microstuttering. Microstuttering is when every once and awhile you have one frame that takes several times as long to render as the rest of the frames with no obvious cause. Since it's only one frame it doesn't change the fps counter but at low framerates it can be very noticeable to us thanks to our human eyes.

I rarely had that, except when lots of stuff was rendering (Cape Claw) - using Off and Audio Throttle On. 11-03-2010, 03:16 AM
I haven't been using audio throttle for quite some time now...Framelimit at auto seems to be fine for me with pretty much all games.

I use audio throttle and frame limiter (VPS), only because I have a decent system and want to maintain the best sync between audio and video that I can. I will try to capture a brief video to illustrate what I am referring to.
By the way I was able to collect the frostweeds in Starfox Adventures so at least that isn't an issue, I just forgot exactly what I needed to do and didn't realize I needed to hit the tree first. |
