Controls not working on Dolphin

Hey guys I got Dolphin for my Mac O SX today.
Dolphin will open up and run a game but I can't do anything with the game after it opens. The controls don't work.
PLEASE HELP!

If its GC games goto config > GC, under port 1 select standard controller
