Controller not recognised by game

Please please help

I downloaded the 5.0 version of dolphin on my Mac and I have a controller which I know works because I tested it on an app

I am using a dragonrise usb controller from Amazon

When I configure the controller on the emulator, i know it works because I can clear the settings and assign buttons
I have attached a screen shot

However when I load a game, the controller is not recognised

I have looked on forums and videos and you tube and I just don't know why

Please assist

Which game did you test?

I tested Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion and the start button won't work
