Could it be because I've only been plugging one of the two USBs on the adapter into my computer?
I think you should ask that to brooks, but other than something being already wrong with your controller/usbports/adapter I can't seem to think of a reason how plugging only 1 usb cable would result in a volt/amp diff that it somehow fried the innards of your controllers
