I'll just start where we left off.

...I'm looking around on the Windows Update pages, and it's not telling me that I need to download SP3. It is, however, recommending that I download a new, 200+ MB .NET Framework (v 3.5). Would this be necessary to fix the problem I'm facing?

EDIT: By the way, I checked DXDIAG and found that I do, indeed, have DirectX 9.0c.

You shouldn't need .NET Framework. You should download the DirectX 9 Updater

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

And Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

or if you have a 64 bit system...

I downloaded and installed both of them. The same problem persists.

Sorry that this issue is so pesky. :S

What exactly is the problem you're having? Also, please give me your computer specs (OS, Processor, RAM, Graphics card)

Link in first post fixed.

My system:
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
nVidia GeForce 7600 GS (512 MB)
2 GB RAM
Athlon processor; equivalent: Pentium 4 2.2 GHz

My problem:
Quote:...Dolphin doesn't even start up. It's not like it starts, displays a grey/black screen (as I've read in other problem threads), and then crashes. I'm saying it doesn't do anything at all. No window, no Dolphin exception message, nothing. Probably not even a process visible in the Task Manager.

I just get the default "encountered a problem" window that gives you the option of sending an error report to Microsoft.

Hhhhmmm...I dunno where the problem is coming from. It's a windows error when trying to run Dolphin. So it doesn't seem likely that there's something wrong with your Dolphin config since it can't even get that far. Maybe try installing a different version. Other than that, it's hard to tell where the problem is. Someone suggested making sure XP is fully up to date wich isn't a bad idea. Get all the important updates and make sure you're using SP3. That way it can rule out compatibility issues per XP not having the latest drivers.

If you don't have SP3 you should still get it.

It's not necessarily enough that you have direct X 9.0c - you also need to make sure you have the most up-to-date version of DirectX 9.0c.

If you haven't run the DirectX Runtime (November 2008 update) then I would give it a try.

Also like stated above..SP3 couldn't hurt either.

If it's not too much to ask, can anyone give me a link to the XP Service Pack 3 download? I've looked around on the Windows Update site and have been led around in circles by its "user-friendliness." I'm sure an SP would have a fairly large filesize, so if possible I'd like to avoid downloading the wrong thing.

I don't believe SP3 is just one update this time around like SP2 was. As long as you use the update site to download all the available updates you should end up with SP3 by the time you are done.

Although this is for IT admins with multiple pc's to upgrade - you could try THIS

Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Motherboard
4GB G.Skill DDR2-1066 RAM
BFGTech Geforce GTX 285 1GB
