Connecting a Wiimote Plus

I managed to loan a Wiimote with a plus addon.
Opened Dolphin then opened Controller Config.
Changed Wii Controller type to Real Wiimote, didn't work.
Tried the Passthrough but get a window popup saying no USB device found. So obviously the controller isn't connecting to my PC. Incidentally, how does it connect? Is it purely through Dolphin or can you actually connect it to windows and use the controller as any other?

The problem though, apart from this, is that once that popup window opens, Dolphin freezes as I cannot close the popup. The reason I suspect that I can't close it is due to the buttons for OK and IGNORE are completely unusable. They aren't highlighted when I hover over them and cannot be clicked. Whether this is because Dolphin has crashed or not I don't know. But I cannot access the Main GUI game list window either because the popup has taken priority. This means I have to forcibly close Dolphin via Task Manager.

I am unable to follow the Guide for connection due to this issue. Please help.
Though I doubt it'll work as I believe a specific Bluetooth adapter is required, is that still the case?

Thanks for your help

What is your bluetooth adapter? Did you follow these guides?

Thanks for the quick reply.
Didn't come across the first link. But forgot about the Sync! Still not working tho. Pressed 1+2 and refresh, then tried Sync button and Refresh. Nothing works.
Saw second and tried to follow, but can't due to passthrough bug(?) crashing Dolphin (latest beta installed) Can't get passed step 2!
Edited first post with info on BT adapter.

I'll take a look at your vids and get bk to you ;-)
Thanks again

Wow! I managed to finally get it working. After about 5 hours looking into this and how to install the Wii System Menu. It seems that Dolphin requires the Wii System Menu for controllers to work. At least that's the only way it works on my system!

Whether the Wii System Menu is installed isn't supposed to affect your ability to connect Wii Remotes.

Yeah I understand. But all my attempts failed until the System Menu was installed?
