Hi,

Recently I have been thinking a question.
As we know, NGC version RESIDENT EVIL 4 is 480P with false 16:9 display.

Here I wonder this 480P means
1. the whole game display?
2. the actual displaying part, i.e., the 16:9 part?

Can anyone help me out?
Thank you in advance.

It means the whole game display. The section that actually gets rendered is only about 512x288.

It's anamorphic widescreen. Think of it like this: The GameCube is not capable of outputting a widescreen resolution, so to cheat this the game renders in 16:9 but squishes the image horizontally into the 4:3 display that the GameCube can output, then the GameCube sends that to the TV which has to stretch it back out into the intended 16:9 widescreen image. Dolphin can't tell that the game is doing this, and so you have to set it to "force 16:9" on GameCube games with widescreen to approximate this.

Wii games don't have this problem since the Wii has a dedicated widescreen mode.

Of course, according to the wikipedia list and the Infendo list, Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube doesn't have 16:9 capability of any kind. So your information is probably wrong. *shrug*

According to the lists above, Resident Evil 4 has progressive scan capability, so (assuming that information is correct) it does not render "only 512x288", it will be the full frame.

Detailed analysis. Thanks. So dolphin push RE4 to a amazing resolution.
The texture is designed in SD.Hence I just set the internal resolution up to 2X.
A little pity. but it doesn't hurt that. Hah... Great game though.

No, you don't understand. Resident Evil 4 always renders a 16:9 image, by using black borders at the top and bottom of the screen. The resulting image only uses 512x288 pixels. Whether it's progressive or not has no relevance.

Lol, wow, that sucks. I always thought Beyond Good & Evil was the only game stupid enough to do that.
