Confused about creating and managing GC memory cards

Hey guys, new to Dolphin.

When I don't have a memory card file, Dolphin creates one with no problem. But I cannot get it to ever use a different memory card, and I don't even know how to create one.

First, I moved the file it created elsewhere, and it automatically created a new one as planned. But I can't get it to read the other, older file. I open the Memcard Manager, browse to it for the A slot, and I see it pictured. But then when I close out of the manager and start up the game, it acts like I never did anything different. I can't stay in the manager because it doesn't then let me play. Am I using the manager wrong? I assumed it was a simulation for putting a memory card in a Gamecube, but is it actually not for this purpose?

I copied the memcard file to make another one in the same folder, just naming it something different, thinking the location would help. But nope, I can't do anything to get it to care about the memory card that isn't default.

I'm really confused and I'm sure there must be something I'm doing wrong. Thanks if you can help.

Go to Config => GameCube => Slot A/B => ... then select your memory card file. Remember the filename can be anything you want but it must end with USA, EUR or JAP, accordingly to the region of your games (for example, foobar.USA.raw, whichevernameyouwant.USA.raw, etc.), otherwise Dolphin will complain when booting games...

Another option is using a GCI folder, you just put your GCI file inside and you're done.

Oh geez. Thank you so much! I'm guessing the Memcard Manager is for moving files and stuff then. Thanks a lot.
