I am using a MacBook Pro Retina,
Processor is 2.4 GHZ Intel Core i5
Memory is 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

A couple games I have tried like Fire Emblem or Baiten Kaitos work just fine. But The Last Story is very sluggish. Are there any tweaks I can do to the settings? Its only running at 35-40 FPS and I am using the latest Dolphin Build since its a greater improvement over 4.00 which was last official release for Mac.

I have Parallels installed on this Mac. Would it run any smoother if I was using Windows version? Sorry if these questions seem out of line, I am new to Dolphin emulation.

The Last Story is probably the most CPU intensive game to play in Dolphin. I'm pretty sure you need an overclocked i5-4670/90K, i7-4770/90K, or a G3258 overclocked to play it.

What´s your exact CPU model number, OP? You only specified the brand, model name and speed of it.
