5 months ago i built a brand new custom computer, i ordered every thing from newegg, execpt the psu from a nearby best buy. I have been using it several hours a day non stop since then.

cpu: amd phenom II x4 965 be 3.4ghz

gpu: Galaxy 60XMH6HS3HMW GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) GC 768MB 192-bit

case: COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black

psu: coirsair gs700

mobo: GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H

Ram: G.SKILL NS 4GB (2 x 2GB)

HD: western digital blue cavilair 320gb

HD: unknown 320gb

cooler: cooler master 212+

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Until recently i have had no problems. Untill a couple days ago. All of the sudden my pc shutdown instantly like when u have no power, except all my usb still had power. it turnt off but my speakers still had power and so did my mouse because they have leds.

Noew it takes up to three tries to get my computer started. I hit the poer button then it turns on for less than a second, fans on leds on psu on but then it just turns off. I have overclocked a few times before highest of 4.2 ghz but it crashed i ran stable on 4.0 ghz then turnt it back down to 3.4.

I thought maybee it was something that could wait a week or so. But then today If shutdown again while i was running. It shutdown right when i started up a game, to be specific cod black ops maxed out. Before it got to the menu the computer just shutoff no blue screen.

I have no idea if there is a one certain part that could be broken. I would really appreciate anything you may know on why this is happening. I cannot afford to buy a part without know for sure that it is the one needing replacement.

i have not tried this i will do asap, but only time will tell if its fixed, for sometimes it will boot without failure. I should have tried this since i have been overclocking lately, i just thought setting everything back to what i thought was normal was okay

thankyou for the advice

edit: cmos is reset

more detail incase this does not work, for other possible problems

okay, sometimes it will not start after i have not been using it for several hours, like its off, i wake up in morning, then its takes a few tries to turn on. I applied arctic silver using the bb dot method. i belive i have screwed on the cm 212+ correctly i screwed it on tight to where u can barely wiggle the top of the heatsink. Everything is brand new, except for the cd and hard drives witch i doubt are the problem.
Everything is high quality, except the ram witch is 40 dollar 2x2 gb. could the ram possibly be the cause since it only crashes or fails to start when i either enter a game or try to turn the pc on. when it wont turn on the pc screen doesnt flinch so idk if you need ram to enter the bios or not.
I just reset my bios and am planning to do a bios update if there is one available for my mobo

if cmos reset does nothing then one of the following might be dead :

- motherboard
- power supply

highly unlikely but possible:
cpu & ram
