"Communications with the Wii Remote have been disrupted"

I am playing HM Animal Parade and Dolphin has been running smoothly. I saved using the emulator's states and now that I try to resume playing, I get the message that the "communications with the wii remote have been disrupted". I play without an actual wii remote. how do I solve this?

Press alt + F5 on the keyboard to reconnect the wiimote in-game
