i'm thinking 200-300.
Also I keep seeing my local micro center having some good deals
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3171901 any thoughts?. since this pc is really just gonna be a used as a toy for the kids. I'm pretty keen to spend as little as possible, in case they break it.

I'm thinking not on that budget. To build a system that can run dolphin well you will have to spend at least $600 bare minimum (in most cases closer to $800).

If that's your budget you should give up on dolphin.

Just saying he already has a ''beast'' main computer. What he wants to build is a smaller, cheaper second one.

go for i3 sandy bridge and H61 board
$250 should be enough for those CPU+board+ddr3ram+HDD
then throw in about $70 for discrete gpu (GT440 class, or any AMD with the same class)
another extra $ for PSU and other hardware, probably end up with a total around $400

*monitor not included Smile

edit :
lol, just look at that link you provided, that's a good deal.
take that 2100 and MSI board (better than the cheap biostar, but if you want to save more cash, it's your choice).
still have to spend $300-400 though

btw, i3 2100 is more than capable for dolphin Wink

if it for kids, might as well buy a real wii. less complicated that way
  • Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.2GHz
  • MSI N560GTX-Ti Hawk
  • Asrock P67 Extreme4
  • 2x2GB 1600MHz 7-9-7-24
  • 2x500GB WD Caviar Blue Raid0
  • Windows 7 64bit SP1
