XD

ye ok so, soon ill be modding my case cause
1) my cpu fan is going nuts when its under load (and the heat my psu fan blows it is just nuts)
2) always wanted to do a case mod Tongue

i was thinking of adding more fans (i now have 2x 80mm fans. one sucking in air on the bottom and 1 blowing out air on top + 120mm fan of psu blowing out air) on the side and/or bottom above the already sucking fan

thing is, i need to get it right from the start or my case is pooped with a nice big hole that i can't fix

so what do you guys recommend in my case?
add fan in side panel blowing on cpu? sucking out air?
add fan on bottom?

im a computer technician but if its about air flow i know almost nothing cause its complicated >_>

Add fan on bottom, it would work really good in my experience Smile

paint ftw! Hot air rises, so it would be logical to put fans that exaughts hot air through the top because the hot air is at the top. Side fans don't help much for OVERALL system temps because it messes up the internal airflow. For more info, visit http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums. Best place ever imo for computing. Also, try your hardest to not put fans upside down because it will decrease fan life and make it slightly noisier. For fans and holes, i'd reccomend a dremel to cut holes, and then use rubber strip lining to cover any rough edges. For ideal fans, visit this thread: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=936

i know how to cut the holes, i just need to know more about air flow >_>

this is my current setup and it worked fine on my old P4 (2,4Ghz no HT) but this cpu fan just goes nuts. (P4 3ghz , HT)

when my pc is under load, fan 2(power supply) blows out hot air while fan 1 (80x80mm) is warmer but not hot,the Cpu temp stays between 50 & 65 tho (and cpu fan going between 2900 & 3500 rpm... opening my case makes it run normal <_< ) . normal? i think not...

im guessing fan 1 isn't sucking the air between gpu & cpu (i felt it , it was hotter then the rest of the case ; maybe i got some dead flow there for some odd reason)

so you are saying to make fan 4(see second image)?

also, the case plan is black with spikes on both sides, colored black with potential flames and a window. and if i get a fan on side, unreal sign as guard Tongue

A Prescott Pentium 4, it heats even more than an old Northwood at same clock.
Also, get rid of any dust around (specially at the top of the heatsink), even my celeron d 2.13 failed after a few minutes of use, i have to take out a layer of dust blocking all air flow every 6 months to keep it working.

Yes, if you place more fans, more dust will get into the case, but it won't be a problem if you keep an eye on it.

What case do you currently have? Please tell me you are not using the default heatsink at least. Sad

i still use stock socket lga775 fan ye. its a good one except for that damn fan

also, i cleaned out my case (and fans!) last month, i doubt its dust

and i specially doubt its dust if the cpu fan runs ok when my case is open.

rene, i can't tell which case it is as i got it from my bro. ill look it up tho
its not a huge case but its a tower and asking to be modded

Well, bonus points for having the right 'can-do' attitude about it. I just hope you do not give up on it once you get her going - like one of my real life friends. Bastard got himself an old school Alienware knockoffs a few years ago and got discouraged just as he got started sanding off the paint.

Anyhoo.. first thing is first.

That is a diagram of what a standard case should be like when talking about airflow. A few things that it does not mention are personal preferences towards Positive or Negative pressure. I personally like Positive because I EFFING HATE DUST! If dust is not a problem for you then Negative would be best as it gives you less chance to have air pockets. Then again it also lower the air density... Hrm Tongue

What do I mean by positive and negative you ask? Positive is when you have more 'fresh' air coming in than going out. To archive this you can either put more intake fans on the front or have higher CFM rated fans located up front than the ones in the back. Negative, or course, is the exact opposite. So why did I ask you for your case type? Well, some cases are made for one type or the other. For example; my Mini P180 has space up front for 1 or 2 120mm fans and space in the back for only one, but up top is a larger 200mm one. They clearly wanted me to have more air exiting than coming in.

Of course, if you are starting off with your own design and want something on the side then why not forsake everything I just said and slap an Antec Big Boy on the side (pushing air in over the CPU) and call it a day Big Grin
