I noticed that I am trying to post a new thread in generally any spot, and I cannot do this. I also noticed I have an asterick above my name. Are the two related?

Am I under the catagory of hushed users? If I am, can you tell me where I can get support?

Where do you want to post? Maybe in one of the games sections? Those are very restricted, because nobody wants a duplicate there, and all threads follow a certain pattern, which can't be trusted to be followed by just anyone.

Well, you posted a thread in here. Most of the forums are restricted to users with a certain amount of posts.

To prevent users from incorrectly posting threads, some forums require users to have a certain number of posts before they can make new topics. The threads in these forums need to follow set templates, therefore only users that have been active in the community are granted permission to post new threads.

Currently active on the following forums:
Gamecube, Wii, Wii Misc, Triforce - Users must be in the "Above and Beyond" group (1000+ posts)
HD Texture Projects - Users must be in the "Advanced User" group (300+ posts)
Delfino Plaza - Users must be in the "Somewhat Advanced User" group (10+ posts)

The limits are for creating new threads, not replying to existing ones. Regular users have no business creating new topics for specific games in the Gamecube/Wii/etc sections, most games already have their own threads so you are expected to use those.

Dan_Tsukasa Wrote:Same story with the HD Retexture packs, I think that it should be more of a mod allowance, I had to get someone else to verify and move my texture pack thread over to the HD Retexture section, which is fine, but I think once that user knows I've made a texture pack and I've got over 50 posts with zero warnings and no spam, that I should be allowed to post retexture threads in that section.

The thing is that there's no way to do this cleanly with the forum software, unless we want to fiddle around with yet more custom user groups (which we don't). If you'd like to see the limits dropped down to 100 posts, that sounds reasonable, but it's also not unreasonable to expect people to verify HD Texture threads. Unless they're going to be doing 5 or 6 new projects every week, it's not a big hassle. The most prolific people creating HD textures generally top out at 3, over the course of as many years. Posting something in General Discussion usually sees it moved to the HD Texture Forum in less than 12 hours (conservative estimate as well).

@gondracorn - That asterisk means you're a hidden user, if you're looking at the Users Online part of the Forum Index (at the very bottom). Just means people who aren't Global Mods or Admins can't see that you're online at any given moment.

Oh, okay. I must have misread your post then. My bad. I thought you were saying the problem was that we had to verify threads like that. Guess I missed that one sentence where you said that was alright :/

Dan_Tsukasa Wrote:If I discover that enabling a certain hack from lets say Zelda fixes a bug with text in something like Tales of Symphonia then I can edit the first post in the Symphonia thread (along with the wiki I guess) so other users can see it.

All you'd need to do is edit the wiki though, and you'd essentially be editing the first post of the Symphonia thread. Each first post just embeds the wiki page. That's the beauty of it, they're basically the same thing Wink

Although at this point the 1000+ post limit on Game Discussion is going to have to stay. Really, there aren't a great deal of game threads to add at this point, just a few obscure titles we may have missed. No average user has any business making new threads there nowadays. That's mainly something the wiki moderating team handles (see Kolano for example).

However, I'll edit the Global Forum rules and change the Forum Permissions on the HD Texture thread to 100 later tonight. 300 was the old limit and may have been arbitrary.
