Here is what I said: Quote:Yes, 4.0GHz is do-able, which I said. 4.5GHz on the other hand is not good for long term use. Both of which are true. Quote:Cool (where's the Like-Button?) Dolphin-emulator forums have too much integrity to implement something like that. Most of us would like to keep it that way. (Sorry neobrain, I had to) @Dodge112 If you want to run dolphin well and get fullspeed in most games you need a sandy bridge cpu, end of story. You'll get the same answer from every experienced user on this forum.

As for overclocking, anything above 4.0GHz will require a very significant voltage bump to remain stable and is not advised for long term use regardless of whether you can keep it cool enough. You were assuming I didn't know the risks of overclocking, btw my friend is overclocking it without tweaking the voltages and he's @ 3.90 GHZ. This is the C3 revised version, I forgot to mention that (better TDP than the usual 965, 125W coming down from 140W which gives ALLOT more headroom for ''safer'' overclocking). I don't really need full speeds, I just want to play some of the old games I liked. If that means lower graphics, I'm fine with that. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as..._-19103727 This product has the most reviews, and has 5 ''eggs''. By no means is this CPU even remotely bad. Yes it won't beat the i5 2500k, and it won't beat the 2600k, but these CPU's are very expensive, and their mobo's are aswell. BTW I hope we're having A discussion, and not an arguement because if that's the case I'll be leaving. Cheers PS if someone could help me with the versions of Dolphin that help the phenom ii the most, that would be very helpful. I see there are like... too many versions.
From my experience you will be in about the same boat i am now. Most games will run at about 90-100% but the heavy hitters Eg: SMG 1&2 zelda TP And xenoblade will run at about 50-60%
I have an AMD dual core desktop clocked at 3.2 that i OCed to 3.6 w/9800gt and thats about what i get with that too.. The reason you keep seeing the i5 2500k pop up is because if you want 100% playability on those games then that pretty much the CPU you gotta go with, again new to all this so i'm just guessing. Just trying to be helpful on the forums for once instead of just asking questions. Where as your CPU will be better in the future for new games, were not at the point in tech right now where you can get a quad core that can rock out dolphin unless your looking to pay 600$ on a cpu so i think the big decision here is whats more important to you future PC gaming or the dolphin running smooth now? That and price.... Oh and graphically (again from what i understand about the dolphin) depends on your GPU not so much your CPU like i have a bottle neck at my CPU but i can still run games in HD no problem. and when i kick that down to non HD i get a little boost in speed emulation but not much. It all about the CPU.... Revisions i think the best thing to do is plug and chug with the different types. Once you get into the swing of it it actually becomes 2nd nature. I believe, for applications that only utilize 2 cores the 965 is slightly better, is this on medium settings? Just checked anandtech benches, and yeah for games it is quite better (not for games like dragon age: origins though, that game benefits heavily from quad core processors). Link The system is about to get here in A few days, any recommendations on A AMD based system (when it comes to which Dolphin revision I should pick etc.)? |
