Can this laptop run games well?

I am thinking of getting the Lenovo Y550 with:
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6600 (2.20GHz 800MHz 2MBL2)

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit (incase Dolphin runs differently in Win7 64)

nVidia Geforce GT 240M graphic card with 1GB GDDR3 memory

15.6 HD 1366x768 (incase this affects how Dolphin works)

4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz SODIMM Memory (2 Dimms)

500GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm (although I'm pretty sure this doesn't matter)

PM45 15.6WLED CB BT-GM45M (motherboard, incase this affects things)


So, that's it. I'm wondering if I can emulate Gamecube games (and which ones) on this and how well (aka framerate and quality of emulation). It'd be tough to emulate Wii games, but I'll ask the same questions about those too.

Mm...You can run your games as long as you meet the minimun requeriments (Also depends on the games you are trying to play and how you configure the emulator for it)
Actually Dolphin most depends of the CPU (But in most cases the speed of your FSB and its multiplier) than the GPU.
If you meet the recomended requeriments you will play your games at a decent speed.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows (2000/XP/Vista or higher) / Linux / Apple Mac OS X (Intel version).
Processor: Any Fast CPU with SSE2 supported (recommended at least 2Ghz). Dual Core for speed boost. use cpu-z to see if your cpu supports it( and google cpu-z dont ask us!)
Graphics: Any graphics card that supports Direct3D 9 or OpenGL 2.1.

Mm...Anyway why dont you give it a try to see how well run on your PC?

Well, I haven't bought it yet, like I stated in my post ("I am thinking of getting...") The next level of CPU has only 2.13 Ghz, but a 1066Mhz FSB and 3MB cache. I'd get it but it costs an extra $110 =/

Since the T6600 is such a popular CPU (and I'm almost certain the 240M isn't going to be the bottleneck), I was hoping someone had tried that CPU with Dolphin and could tell me how well it works.

My laptop runs SSBB full speed with no issues using the DirectX 9 plugin at 1680x1050 (specs in sig). My video card is roughly 40% more powerful and my processor is also more powerful than what's in that Lenovo. When frame skip and audio throttle are off, the game averages 160% normal speed in game on Final Destination with one computer player. Just to give you an idea where you'll be with this particular Wii game at least

As long as you're not buying that laptop specifically to play games using Dolphin, then it should be fine. By the way, Lenovo is a good choice

Edit: And of course, Wii games are in general more taxing on hardware than Gamecube games. Most of those should be a walk in the park for that system.

Okay, thanks. I didn't really think it would run Wii games well, so that's not a problem. And no, I wasn't buying this just for Dolphin, Gamecube emulation would just be a nice addition to the many PC games I could play on it

I dare say it could at least play New Super Mario Bros with frameskip, even my weak laptop can run it at about half speed.

By half speed, do you mean slow motion or do you mean close to right speed, but skipping half the frames?

BTW, any idea how this would run Twilight Princess for Wii? (IMO it sounds like the "Crysis" of Dolphin, aka, great for benchmarks)
