Can't Start Games in Debug Mode

Trying to get into smash bros melee hacking following InternetExplorer's video series on youtube. I can get dolphin to open in debug mode by making a shortcut with the route plus '/d' at the end. But whenever I try to open an iso I just get a black screen in the dolphin window. Tried multiple games, none will load. The regular version of dolphin still loads up any game fine.

There an easy fix for this?

Also, this is the tutorial I've been following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOyQhK2OCs0&list=PL6GfYYW69Pa2L8ZuT5lGrJoC8wOWvbIQv&index=1

On his version of debug dolphin there are a few tabs on the left: Code, Registers, Breakpoint and Memory. On mine the only one there is Code. The other tabs just don't exist. Is this something that just got changed in an update, and if so, is there any way for me to access that information about the game file being run?

Thanks in advance.
