Can't save my progress with Super Mario Sunshine

Hello. I'm currently playing Super Mario Sunshine and I think I messed with saves because I used both the saving system of the game and the save states of Dolphin and now for some reason, I get this error message when I try to save the game manually : "Unable to save Memory Card in Slot A. Please insert the original Memory Card or press the A button to continue without saving." I saw in another thread that I have to delete my save via the Memory Tool Manager, load the game with the save state and then save manually again but I can't find it even though I'm in the right folder because it's a .gci file. I want to delete the file without the tool manager and launch the save state but I'm afraid to lose everything if I do that so that's why I made this thread. What should I do. Thanks.

Make sure you backup the gci before deleting it just in case. That advice is based on a raw memory card file. If you have gci files, deleting the gci should be equivalent to removing the save in the memory card manager. If the trick doesn't work, you have either try to continue with your save states or start over from the last proper save.

Thank you for your reply. So, as long as I don't delete the save state I'm fine ? Unfortunately I don't know how to do backups, i'm new to Dolphin

I'm saying to make a backup of Documents\Dolphin Emulator\GC\USA\Card A\01-GMSE-super_mario_sunshine.gci (assuming usa) and deleting it. Then you would try the trick of saving ingame after loading the state. Using savestates are not recommended as your normal save function because of issues like these.
