Can't save Mario Sunshine

Hello, I keep getting the message in the attached screenshot whenever I try to save Super Mario Sunshine to the virtual memory card. Other games I've attempted so far (Twilight Princess and Enter the Matrix) work fine, and I was able to save Mario Sunshine as well for a little while. I think until 4.0 came out. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am currently using 4.0-26. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Use Memcard Manager to delete the save and try again. You should create a backup first.

you saved on the memorycard at a later point than your savestate. first party games such as SMS, LoZ, etc check this and will refuse to save
