Can't get any cheats to run

I can't get any cheats to run in Dolphin, regardless of whether or not they are cheats included with dolphin, or are cheats that I put in myself. Most of the time when I have a cheat open, the game will immediately freeze upon loading. Other times, the game will run, but the cheat won't work. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.
