can't get 2 player in super mario brow wii

hallo

i have a problem playing super mario wii.
one player is working great with my usb-gamepad.
but when my buddy and i want to play in co-op the second usb-gamepad dose not join in.

i got both set up in the wii config and both get recognized.

but in the game when i'm at the "add wii remote" windows (see below)
and my buddy presses button 1+2 it just dose not work.

can you help us to get double the fun
