Like I said,it drops below 60 fps roughly 10% of the time.
If you consider that minor drop, then yes you could say oc'd sandy is not required Smile

I know, "minor" is a subjective and relative word. That's why vids are helpful in determining if something is "minor". Averaging 10% out means that drops happen every minute for 6 seconds. It's definitely not major, and it definitely goes toward changing the whole OCed Sandy/Ivy Bridge. Been an interesting day indeed. Wink

Yeah,I am more excited about LLE sound though then this topic Smile
Anyways,of course it doesnt happen like that. It depends where are you at the game currently. If you stand at the place which is most demanding then you will have less the 60 fps all the time.
What I was trying to say is that places in game this demending are rare-they constitute about 10% of the game world,of your gameplay.

Been tracking these developments all day. Just built a new HTPC with an i5 3570k that I've got to 4.4ghz stable. I'm still not getting a consistent 60fps in SMG2, and it drops to 51/52fps during the beginning of the game outside of the castle with Bowser in the background. This is with dx9 and LLE with LLE on thread.
I have tried about 10 revisions - including several of the latest and several of the purported fastest - as well as every combination of settings possible, particularly speed-up orientated ones. I am running windows 7 x64, a GTX 460 at stock, and 4GB 1333Mhz dual channel. Running my CPU at anything over 3.8Ghz has no effect on fps. Running at either 1x IR or 3x IR has no effect on fps. With 3x IR I'm at about 60-70% GPU usage, so no GPU bottleneck. Given that clocking my 3570k at anything over 3.8Ghz has no effect on the fps, it would appear that there is also, strangely, no CPU bottleneck.

Any idea guys? Do any of you really run SMG2 at 60fps without drops to the low 50's?

By the way when I say that I've tried every combination of settings possible, I mean it. I've been using Dolphin for over 2 years and have been waiting to run the Mario Galaxy games at fullspeed for all that time, which I had hoped would be possible with a 3570k and a decent GPU. However, my testing runs counter to the feedback in this thread. I'm lost!

Well I certanly do get drops to low 50's but then again I dont have i5 3570k Smile
I know you said you tried every settings, but did you try settings I mentioned in this thread ? Vbeam ? Copy to texture ? No aa ?
Other then that I dont recommend you use latest dolphin. I just compare results from for example 3.0-600 with 3.0-688 and 688 is about 10-15% slower with same exact settings.
Then I tried r7719m and it was 10-15% faster then 3.0-600 which is 10-15% faster then 3.0-688.
You do the math.
Sad things is that dolphin is getting slower...

I'll attempt to record a video as soon as I am able to. Do keep in mind that this causes some performance drop.
I will also post a few screenshots, so you can see the FPS without FRAPS eating some of it.

Are you talking about this scene?

IR is set to x1 to rule out the GPU.

2500K @ 3.3GHz (FPS: 55~60)

2500K @ 4.5GHz (FPS: 70+)

On stock, the lowest I got was around 55FPS. OC'd I don't drop below 60.
Atleast, from the little I've played so far.

Have you monitored your temperatures? What are they when you play SMG2?

Thanks for the reply Garteal. Yeah, that's the scene. My temps are fine. About ~60c during this scene, and the CPU definitely isn't throttling as it's pegged at 4400MHz in CPU-z when running Dolphin. I've stress tested it comprehensively anyway and the overclock is solid. There's definitely something else wrong.
Just tested that scene with 'Framelimit' set to 'Off' it's dropping to 61fps. Can I ask what 'Framelimit' setting you're using?

Alright, that sounds good. Just had to make sure.

It's on auto. I hold down TAB to temporarily unlimit the FPS.

Which build are you using right now?

Thanks rpglord. Yeah, I'm using Vbeam, copy to texture and no aa. I'll try those revs and see how I get on, although as I said I've tried older (pre 3.0) revs and there is no difference. It's like somethings limiting me. Same situation with F-zero GX. Neither my CPU or GPU seem to be the bottleneck. I must have some settings wrong but am sure that I've tried them all.
Oh well, I've got the whole weekend to spend messing around with this so I'm sure that I'll get it sortedSmile

The latest from EmuCR, although to be honest using any of the recent builds makes no difference. I'm going to do some more testing, as if you're getting those speeds then there's something screwy somewhere. Could I ask what revision you're using, and where you downloaded it from, or did you compile it yourself?

Have all the builds you tried been from EmuCR?
Have you tried the official 3.0 from the official website?

There's definitely something wrong on your end. Do you have anything besides Dolphin open when you play the game?

turingpest Wrote:Could I ask what revision you're using,
I used 3.0-688 for the screenshots, but the official 3.0 produced similar results.

turingpest Wrote:and where you downloaded it from, or did you compile it yourself?
I compile them myself.

I only used the EmuCR build as the official one made F-Zero GX crash. I have no idea why. There is hardly any difference in speed between the official and the EmuCR builds, although if I were pushed I'd say that the EmuCR builds are slightly better/faster.
Nothing else is running when using Dolphin. I'm seeing about 55% CPU usage anyway when running SMG2, so have loads of CPU time to spare. In fact, given that my overclock is stable and the fact that there is little difference between both different builds (7719m and 3.0-600 are a little bit slower than 3.0-688 actually), and different clockspeeds, I think that I can rule out anything to do with my CPU as at 4.4Ghz it's more than fast enough. The problem must lie elsewhere.
3.0-688 yields the same results for me - slowdowns to the low 50's - so I'm going to have to test everything this weekend, probably including a full Windows re-install. I'd need a clean install to rule out any conflicts, and I'll have to try different Nvidia drivers.
So, thanks for your help anyway guys, and if I'm still stuck after more testing then I'll be back with my own 'help me!' thread...Smile
