Nope, it's unchecked. And I'm on auto framelimit.
Are you referring to the Bowser scene when you get those drops?

Can my PC run SMG1 and 2?

Yeah, still referring to the Bowser scene. I'm only testing it at the beginning as I don't want to start playing it on my PC until it's near enough perfect. I've already completed the first Mario Galaxy game on my Wii but have actually held off finishing SMG2 as I've been wanting to play it through entirely in 1080p. It's been difficult to resist as it's so brilliant but I've been very busy anyway and have had plenty of other games to finish and other things to do!

You're still at 4.4GHz, correct?
Let's try out something. Turn off your framelimit and turn your graphical settings all the way down. Go to the Bowser scene, and take a screenshot, or note down the FPS you get and report back here. (basically what I did in post 35) 06-12-2012, 05:14 AM

Yeah, still at 4.4Ghz. Just tested with 1x IR and all other graphics settings off/low. All other settings standard for this game. No hacks, etc. Using vbeam and LLE backend on thread. It's dropping to the low 50's, but now my GTX 460 is dropping the memory clock to it's 2d level which is 162Mhz. Trying to force the clock higher in MSI afterburner isn't working.
Increasing the res to 2x IR forces the 460 into using 3d clocks, but I'm still getting the same drops, with roughly the same GPU usage as 1x IR with 2d clocks, which is ~50%. Interestingly it drops the most heavily whenever Bowser's on screen. When he's not visible it can hit over 70 fps. Also of note is the fact that in my testing over the weekend I found that I can't use 3x IR as the GPU use hits over 95% and I get massive slowdowns of 20-30%. I knew that SMG2 was heavy graphically but I didn't expect a full-fat GTX 460 to be bottlenecking at 3x IR, 1080p and no AF/AA. With Framelimit off but checking 'Limit by FPS' results in it dropping to 62fps at the most and only very briefly. Other than that it's well over 70-80fps. |
