These are the specs of my laptop.

CPU: Core i7-8750H
GFX: NVIDIA Geforce 1060
Ram: 16gb
OS: Windows 10

For the past couple of months I've been testing my laptop with dolphin constantly to get it to function properly, however I get these weird stutters that happen during gameplay regardless of the game I choose. I thought I found solutions multiple times but at the end it always comes back. These are just some of the things i attempted to do...

-played at default settings, no enhancements
-played with all different backends
-used all 4 shader compilations and loading up shaders at start.
-played with the CPU clock on the dolphin app
-modifies the options of dolphin via Nvidia Control center
-updated drivers on my pc
-undervolted cpu to prevent thermal throttling (also have great ventilation for my laptop)
-set the dolphin app on high priority via Task Manager
-used the (Unofficial) Ishiiruka dolphin build
-always have pc plugged In and my power plan is on max settings.

No matter what I do it always stutters regardless. With some people I talked to and from what others have said on older threads in the past it seems my cpu and graphics card is great for dolphin, but I'm not 100% sure since it can be misinformation. Not to mention I dont expect games to run 100% perfect (though some say I should be able to run games smoothly) I just cant seem to solve it.

So basically put, with my long winded explaination, Is my laptop too weak to run dolphin or am I doing something wrong?

Which games?

Also, go into Graphics and in the first tab click Asynchronous Ubershaders or whatever we call it in the UI. Should resolve the stutters.

Soul calibur 2, Smash Bros Melee, and Mario kart Double Dash.

I also have used the asynchronous ubershaders options but also no such luck. It still stutters regardless unless I use skip drawing option and even with that it still stutters, just slightly less

Nothing odd is happening with your temps or cpu voltage when running dolphin? (I use msi afterburner's OSD to monitor my systems when running Dolphin, at least for a whike after setting up a new game)

My laptop Zephyrus S gx531 uses the same CPU and the 1070 max q gpu. I don't have these issues with soul calibur 2, the other games are not on my flashdrive I use when traveling so I can not check, but I don't think they are much more demanding. The only non standard settings I am using is LLE DSP with my files I dumped from my Wii using DSPspy (I coppied them over from my main emulation PC, but I forget the reason I bothered to do it in the first place... now it is just out of habit).

Your zephyrus m gu501 gm should run pretty close to my system unless there is a power limit or temprature issue going on. Make sure your profile in asus's armory crate or whatever it is called on your model is not set to silent or balanced since it actually slightly underclocks the system (at least on mine it does, though I read undervolting messes with the silent mode's underclock so I haven't undervolted mine).

You could also try a prime 95 stress test to make sure your system is stable.

Sorry then, no clue. Your specs should run everything in Dolphin at full speed. At this point you're looking at either

1. a hardware cooling issue

2. a system config issue - drivers, power management, external programs making a mess, etc etc etc

The temps seem fine when using dolphin,  staying at a modest 58c to 60c, and using XTU there seems to be no throttling of any type.

And I dont have that type of program installed, i have the ROG program that i guess is the same as the armory crate.

Ok I'll try prime 95, i did use cinebench and XTU to test my pc and their seems to be no throttling.

@Helios: I only updated the Nvidia driver, I however dont know where to go to update anything else. With power management I do have it all on max power unless I am missing something. And as for external programs I am un installing alot of bloat that came with the pc, and checking the cpu usage while in dolphin it seems dolphin is the only thing using the CPU.

My pc also uses hyperthreading which I hear messes with Dolphin, should I disable it?
