I just got my Mayflash Dolphin sensor bar and synced my Wiimote to it, but couldn't get it to work with Dolphin.  Googled the error and found out I can't use the bluetooth passthrough after Mac OS 10.9.

No worries, I don't have the Wimote Plus, and only want to play MP3: Corruption.  So I paired my Wiimote directly to my Mac, and it works fine.  However, I can't get the pointer to work with the sensor bar.

Can the Mayflash sensor bar be used strictly as a sensor bar, without anything synced to it first?  Or do I need to return it, and get a cheapie "regular" sensor bar?

A Dolphin Bar running the latest firmware will turn its IR LEDs on only when there's at least one Wiimote connected to them. That's to (try to) avoid a hardware flaw where it powers the IR LEDs with too much current and thus the LEDs end burning prematurely eventually. I heard they silently released a second Dolphin Bar revision that has a physical switch to control the IR LEDs independently but I have no idea if this flaw was actually fixed. If you have a bit of soldering skills you can also open it and do a simple DIY mod so the IR LEDs are always on regardless if there's a Wiimote connected or not.

TL;DR if you need only a sensor bar, it's probably easier to return the Dolphin Bar and get something else. If you can't return it anymore, try modding it...

I got it from Amazon, so I sent it back.  Got a cheap USB sensor bar on its way.
