oooooooooohhhhhhh, ok, i didnt know that

Checkout my latest project ( it is a program that downloads and compiles dolphin on mac and linux now): http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu-downloader (It's unofficial and maintained by me, not the dolphin dev team)

I have a Dell laptop with i7 820 (1.7-3Ghz) and it runs most every game everyone else vouches for fine... and some others that are said to be slow/broken too!

I think the speeds are a lot more to do with Dolphin configuration and revisions that what your computer can handle (within reason, of course). Some Wiiware games that look DS-esque run like molasis, whille crazy games like MK Wii run almost 60FPS all the time in split screen!

In my lay opinion, Dolphin speeds are 25% computer related and 75% emulator related. NBA Jam is a perfect example - no more than 50% speed on anything but r4775.

Also speeds are very cpu-bound.

In the last month or so, I've put (due to testing hardware, I don't keep or own them all) a

gtx 280
gtx 480
ati 3850
ati 4670
ati 5870

In my i7 rig, and at *most*, there was a 4-5fps difference between an almost 4 year old
3850 and a gtx 480 for example.
And that's in games like Mario galaxy. ZTP was exactly the same speed, with only 2fps difference in hyrule field.

Most games, almost all in fact, run at full speed even on old cards like that.
So if you ever decide to upgrade hardware, I suggest either buying a new i7 (either the 9 series or the upcoming 2600) or wait for AMD's new arch

core i7 720qm only runs at 1.6ghz (base frequency) on idle... When stressed on 1 core it runs at 2.8ghz, on 2 cores about 2.4-2.6ghz, etc...

This. I see people get confused all the time on the PCSX2 forum as well. It IDLES at 1.6ghz but it can boost up to between 2-3ghz depending on the program. It's plenty fast for dolphin.
Laptop:
i5 520m :: 4GB RAM :: ATI 5650 (700, 900)
