(First post. If I'm making any missteps, please let me know.)
In an effort to emulate the functionality of the Gamecube controller's thumbstick, with its octagonal cutout that allowed the player to snap the thumbstick to one of eight directions precisely, I was wondering if there was some way to lock input to up, down, left, right, and diagonals, while maintaining the variable pressure you get with an analog input method (else, I would just bind the analog stick to d-pad inputs and be done with it).
The reasoning behind this is that I need to be able to input precisely in these 8 directions - like exactly up-right or down, etc., can you guess what game it's for? - and while it's kinda possible on the Xbox 360 pad I have, it's stupidly finicky and... well, quite the opposite of precise, because pretty much no gamepads other than the Gamecube's have that octagon-shaped thumbstick cutout. Most are just circular, which is smooth, but sloppy.
I'm seeking any way to lock the stick to 8-way, whether it's through Dolphin or via some external tool. If anyone knows of a way, please let me know.
Thanks!
