Hi guys, I was just wondering if I could use my laptop as my wii with the HD out, instead of dragging my wii around, using dolphin. I have dolphin up and running with good fps, but I was wondering if it is capable of things like buying dlc songs for rockband 2 and stuff, and installing wads from the channel area onto the "fake" dolphin wii. Can dolphin access and use the internet in the first place? How does it handle things like wads and downloaded content, if at all?
Can dolphin replace my physical wii completely?

Dolphin should not be used as a replacement for a wii. In 5 years time maybe, but right now, no.

I don't own a physical Wii console anymore, but I used to. I use solely Dolphin for my Wii gaming needs. My friends love it because it's in HD. I love it because I don't have to mess with a physical gaming system. Granted you have to the the high-end PC for it, you can get Dolphin to run at 100% speed in full 1080P or higher without lag. Sure, it does occasionally crash, but, with safe texture cache and whatnot, Dolphin is overall a reliable system to use. I just wish safe texture cache didn't use up as much of my processor as it does, so I often have it on fast safe texture cache or turn it off altogether. If you have a super high-end PC, you can have safe texture cache on safe mode and still not have any issues of dropping below 100% speed with 4 players playing at once. 09-09-2010, 02:27 AM
It's still in development though. Still a lot of games that are buggy as hell no matter what you do. Plus the developers don't condone using it as a replacement for a real wii. If you want to that's your choice.

Dolphin technically can be used to replace a real Wii no matter what anyone says. What you need to do is find some of the games that you like to play and see if they work well enough for you to enjoy them, if so, you have something that you can use to replace your Wii. If you're looking to use the Wii menu and all that goes along with it, you're not going to get that experience quite yet, but maybe one day soon. If all you're looking to do is play some games, you have a really good chance that they not only will work, but work well enough to be considered "playable" if the computer you're using it up to the task.
