Buying new pc - will it run dolphin?

Hi.

I´ll be buying a new computer soon, and I want to build one that will be able to run dolphin without lags. Since I´m also saving money to buy a ps4, I would like to spend as little as possible on the new pc - without, of course, sacrificing its capacity to run dolphin and other emulators, such as pcsx2.

After research, I´ve come to two options:

intel i3 4160 3,6ghz 3mb
4gb ram
geforce gt 430 or GEFORCE 9800 GT (wich one is better?)

and

intel i5 4690k 3.5 ghz 6mb
4gb ram
geforce gt 430 or GEFORCE 9800 GT

The first option is cheaper, but will it be able to play wii games? Is there a thrid, and better, low budget option? Also, wich motherboard should I use?

Thanks!

Neither of them is good bang for buck
If you build your own PC , i will recommend
G3258 + Asrock Z97 Anniversary + GTX 750 or GTx 750Ti + 80 PLus Bronze 300W PSU or higher wattage
Pentium Anniversary G3258 is monster at overclocking , it can reach 4.6GHz without extra cooler

Acer v5-573G : 1080p LED |  i5 4200U @ 2.3GHz | Nvidia GT 750M 4GB | 128GB Toshiba SSD  | 12GB DDR3 1600MHz

Hi, thanks for the answer.

When I said build, I meant to say that I´ll buy it at a store that allows me to choose the components. I´ll ask them if they do overclocking.

Is it possible to run dolphin well on a i3 4160 without overclocking? I´m interested mostly in playing nintendo games.

You can not overclock an i3

Well , if you're really saving money to buy a ps4 , you should build your own PC . Save even more buck and get the best component (Most prebuilt PC are shit and overpriced)

Bad plan. Get the parts yourself, put them together yourself. Any sort of prebuild/semi-prebuild nonsense is going to be sub-par and overpriced.

Yes. I'm using that CPU myself- it works great in Dolphin (except in the very most demanding games like Rogue Squadron) and it also performs well in modern PC games. Be sure to use a quick batch script to force it to 2 threads, by the way- it improves performance notably on hyperthreaded i3s.

If you don't play modern games, I would consider the Pentium G3258 instead- when overclocked, it's insanely performant in Dolphin and other emulators. I don't suggest it for modern games, though.

The i5-4690K is much better again- probably the best chip you can buy for gaming- but it is likely to be overkill for your needs and certainly isn't appropriate for PC gaming if your graphics card is low end.

All the graphics cards you list are pretty bad. Dolphin isn't too fussy about GPU performance compared to CPU, but still.

Suggested entry build: i3-4160 + GTX 750 Ti + 8GB RAM, swap out the i3 for the G3258 if you're solely playing emulators and not new games.

It would help if you told us your budget (and currency), I could put together a parts list for you. I would suggest that, instead of getting a PS4+a cheap PC, you forget the PS4 and build a nice powerful gaming PC instead... but maybe there are PS4 exclusives you want to play?

Hi, you clarified a lot of things for me.

My budget in dollars would be something around $680,00.

With $669,00 I can buy a i3-4160 + GTX 750 (not ti) + 8GB RAM.

As for the ps4, the only exclusive I would like to play is FF7, but it´s a timed exclusive, so...
The real concern is that to buy an, let´s say, I5-4690 + GTX 970 + 8 GB RAM, I would need $1350. So my original plan was to wait somewhat around two years to buy a current generation console (a ps4 or a xboxone) and in the meantime be playing old ps2 and wii games. Buying a ps4 would allow me to play ps3 exclusives too (supposing they will be release for the ps4 someday).

Will the overclocked G3258 be better than the i3-4160 to play dolphin? The games I´m more interested in playing are zelda, mario, rpgs and whatnot.

All being put, I think the options you two gave me have improve my purchase. Thank you both.

Ah, wich motherboard should I go with the i3-4160?

1300$ for an i5 + a 970? That seems way too much. Are you buying a pre-built?

He has a brazilian username. So, I think this is the reason of the high prices. I'm brazilian too and it's normal for us to pay more for less. One year and almost a half ago I paid more than U$ 350 for a GTX 760.

@Topic
It's best to wait and buy something better. I have an i5-4670k with the GTX 760. It runs Dolphin and any PC game beautifully. Don't buy cards like the GT 430 or 9800GT, they're really very weak.

Yep, that´s it.

I think I will go with the i3-4160 + GTX 750. Does it need to have 8gb ram or 4gb will suffice?

Mastterd, do you think that by january next year the i5-4670k will be much more cheaper?

Of course , it's much better . G3258 @ 4.6GHz = i7 4790k turbo speed (4.4GHz)
