Ok yeah. I don't know a lot about A/C, in fact you might know more than me. It doesn't state it in the instruction manual but I believe all portable A/C units work the same way. Sucking air in from the room and blowing it over cold and hot condenser coils in a heat exchanger. Then venting the cold air back into the room and the hot air outside through the vent.

Now my question is this. If you're planning on hooking up this rackmount system to the vent are you going to get rid of the portable A/C unit? Because you'll have no A/C, which could actually be worse. Or do you plan on making a second vent?

I mostly agree. He's in canada so it likely gets cold/temperate depending on the time of year.

Here in Florida though opening a window means turning the house into an oven in a matter of minutes so that's not such a great idea.

Then again, when I thought about it, my house's heating was broken, so I was heating my room with Furmark, so excess heat was not a real consideration.

I now realise I've contributed nothing to this conversation. I still think this is a hell of a lot of work compared to opening a window.
Opening a window isn't an option, as the computer's monitor is a 1080p Epson projector. Letting light in is worse then keeping heat in.
Mosquitoes are on the prowl around here this time of year, so there's that.

The A/C would remain, it is on a different wall the then PC, and uses a separate vent from the one I would be considering using for the PC. The point is to make the room less Dependant on the A/C, letting the A/C be in passive mode longer then Chill.

And don't be fooled, it can get pretty dang hot and humid up here during this time of year, I wont deny florda's got us beat but when we're used to the cold and rain 80% of the year our tolerances for heat is much different. My room is the hottest room in the house regardless of having any electronics in it. its above the furnace/laundry room, so the rest of the year when the furnace is on it's getting all the radiated heat from below, I've even pluged off the furnace heat vent in my room. I have left my window open all year long even when it's snowing and my room is still warm, not a option now due to the projector.

Put a piece of black fabric over the open window. It'll let only certain particles, such as air, through, while blocking out nasty photons and mosquitoes.

I have black blinds with white backing, designed to reflect/block out light. they stil have the tiny pin holes used for the string pulleys. Tho "tolerable" using the projector even with the blinds down, the light shines thru the holes and onto the screen creating a less then ideal picture.

I am going to take some pictures of my room with in the next hour and upload them, might shed some light on some things.

It will also reduce the airflow by at least 95% depending on the type of fabric. It's a complicated solution that barely helps.

And we're the opposite. 95% of the year this place is a natural convection oven. Only with high humidity to make it much worse. During the 1-2 weeks of the year in the winter where the temperatures falls to 65 F (18 C for those of you on the other side of the pond) you'll see everyone outside in long sleeve shirts and sweaters/jackets. I swear to god. That's how bad our cold tolerance is.

Alright so you have another vent in the room that you'll be using for this. What is that vent hooked up to? Do you have multiple wall vents leading to the outside?

Yeah I'll bet we have you beat there too. Walking outside any time of the year here during dusk or dawn ensures you'll get bitten at least a dozen times.

TIL Floridian Winter is the same as British Summer (except the fact that we've been experiencing global warming recently, so managed to get the household thermostat to read 38°C a few weeks ago even with all available windows open).

I was in England one summer and I would say it's about the same as our fall (at least while I was there). Definitely nowhere close to Florida summer.

I used to think we had it bad.....until I visited Belize. No artificial humidifier can compete with the humidity of central/south American air. It's brutal.

1. God damn that's nice.
2. Scale the images down next time so they fit. I had to save all of the images so that I could view them with an image viewing application that scales them to fullscreen.
3. I see a white vent to the bottom left of the PC. Is this the other vent you were talking about? And there is likely a vent directly behind the A/C unit. I also think what I see on the right hand side of the window is another set of vents.
4. The room despite being beautiful is fairly stuffed. Where are you going to put this massive rackmount system? It looks like if you were to put it in front of either of the two vents I mentioned above you would block one of the two doors (one of those is probably a closet by the looks of it but none the less you still probably need access to it).

Edit: Much better.
