To the OP, check this video for seeing just how much difference HT can make to a CPU with few physical cores, and some scenes that show how close it is to an i3 in most situations due to the Hyperthreading. You won't have seen that much of an improvement with Xeon's, they have so many cores anyway. Sounds like a slow computer to me...

The GPU is nice but why bother with polishing a turd? I would get at least an i7 / quad core....

Also get Windows 10 for the DirectX12 which pairs nicely with Dolphin for boost in GPU performance/FPS...

Because he just said it's a budget build, and i7's are not budget processors?
Also, the 1050 is literally the lowest current gen card Nvidia offers, it's not like he's putting in a 1070 or something.
Sounds like needless budget inflation to me, given the Kabylake Pentiums are almost as good as i3's.

My budget is ~$350 - I'm planning to purchase parts for my server at the same time, so that kind of limits me a bit. If there's a way I can get a CPU thats not really expensive and that is good with both single (Dolphin)/multithreaded tasks (virtualization, Plex etc.) I could do that, but it seems that Xeons (especially the cheaper ones) don't seem to run Dolphin well. If that is possible though I can boost it to $450.

The best you could get for that would probably be either the Pentium you're already looking at or an i3, possibly an i5 depending on how expensive they are where you're buying them.
They're all Kabylake, so they'd still work with the mobo you've already selected.
The i3's support AVX, which Dolphin uses at some points for optimizations, so Dolphin may run slightly better on them than the Pentiums, not going to be a huge difference though.
An i5 wouldn't have that much effect on Dolphin above than of an i3, but it would be better at properly multi threaded tasks due to the four physical cores. (Yes, I am a firm believer in HT, but having more physical cores is always going to be better.)

Why not just wait for AMD Ryzen Benchmark ?
According to AMD , their latest CPU R7 1800X is on par with $1000 Intel Core i7 6900k (8 cores 16 threads)
They clocked both CPUs at 3.0GHz and tested them with Cinebench
Ryzen is just 1 month ahead
Rather than building 2 systems , you should build 1 for both Dolphin and Multi-tasking

Hmm, I did hear that AMD was going to compete better with Intel but not sure I want to wait another month haha. I guess it would make more sense to build one computer instead of using 2. I did some searching and found a pretty decent Xeon though - E3-1240V5 (Skylake) - which seems to have a 2200+ passmark single thread rating. Would performance with this be on par with the newer Pentium in Dolphin? It has a very good multithreaded benchmark and 4 cores, so if I skip upgrading the older workstation I have I might be able to get that.
