OK, I disabled Speed Up Disc Transfer Rate, and the problem was greatly alleviated! There were still a few stutters, but overall it was much faster compared to when I had it on. I still don't completely understand your explanation, though--why wouldn't an SSD be able to keep up with Dolphin loading a lot of data in a short amount of time? Or is is a completely different issue (I honestly wouldn't know)?

Because Dolphin doesn't just want to load data fast when you have SUDTR on, it wants to load really fast, otherwise it forcibly throttles emulation. It even used to require infinitely fast reads in the past! That's just how SUDTR works, and it's one of the reasons why I think it's a bad option. I've been wanting to make a better option to replace it, but I need to use that PR I linked as a base for it, and it has been in review for half a year now without much happening... So while I don't know when it will happen, my hopes are that it will be possible in the future to make Dolphin load as fast as the disk can handle but not any faster EDIT: Actually, no, my explanation above for the speed problems with SUDTR fits well with my PR, but not as much with the current versions of Dolphin. The main problem there is that disk reading and CPU emulation happens on the same thread, so when the disk is being read, the CPU can't be emulated, giving you bad performance when loading a lot of data quickly. My PR puts disk reading on a separate thread. 08-14-2015, 06:35 PM

OK, thanks a lot for the info. I'm glad I was able to fix the issue--I had kind of resigned myself to the fact that it would just happen every time, so I'm glad you told me that. Good luck with that PR, I hope it goes somewhere :P
