TBH, if we had full control over graphics drivers, scheduling and interrupts, Dolphin could be made a lot faster. This will never happen though.

Fwiw, you're not the first one to come up with such an idea, so you're not alone in thinking the OS could be slimmed down (or in this case eliminated). I distinctly remember someone inquiring about making a super-slim Linux distro dedicated to running Dolphin. But it's not like ordinary distros aren't slim as it is. My background CPU usage idles at about 1-5% for basic computing (file editing, file browsing, web browsing), and that's just on one core.Custom Arch-Linux setup anyone?..... 08-16-2013, 10:55 AM
Boost performance by a whopping 3%!

Now that's its been 2nd it has to be done. You can start easy and strip Dolphin down to a Win32 console app and just use the HX extender. It has DOSception support (running DOSbox in DOS) so it can't be that hard.
Fun fact for jimbo1qaz you can enable SSE, AVX should work too just not in real mode, and even long mode in DOS though with no 64bit DPMI server or himem.sys that's not of much use. 08-17-2013, 05:38 AM

Once the OS is loaded and Dolphin loads the game, actually running Dolphin wouldn't be slow. |
