bluetooth passthrough errors out without any bluetooth connections

i keep getting the error

Could not find any usable Bluetooth USB adapter for Bluetooth Passthrough.  The emulated console will now stop.

this only happens when i try to play wii games, gamecube works just fine.
i have a 2021 Apple MacBook Air with an M1 SoC.
