Bluetooth Adapter... sucks.. i cant think of a better title

this is a huge can of worms to unpack, so tear that TL;DR rule in two and LISTEN UP:



i ordered a 5.3 bluetooth adapter (qgoo or something, dont exactly recall) so that i could hook up my wiimote to dolphin. (original wiimote, not a cheesy rip-off.) but the adapter didnt detect the wiimote. after a bit of troubleshooting i found out that passthrough through a bluetooth adapter exists. i tried it, dolphin says it couldnt find one, i say OK, an entire Zadig situation happens, I re-download the original driver 4 days later; and here i am, writing it to the dolphin forum. ive tried everything: changing my driver to every single one known to man, troubleshooting the hell out of closed microsoft and dolphin forum threads, etc. to no avail. sticking to the PS5 Dualsense controller is a decision i didn't want to make (since games like WarioWare Smooth Moves is uncomfortable with it), and my Wiimote is already decked the hell out. Motion Plus Adapter (with the jacket) and the Nunchuk. I was ready, and now I'm pissed. I really have nothing else to spare except for more anger over this. But I do have one more thing to add:


My old machine had built-in bluetooth and it easily paired with Wiimotes. this NEW one can't do anything right! I need help, is what i'm saying. Maybe the adapter is the issue?

Just to make sure, you weren't able to connect your Wiimote with the default "emulate a BT adapter" mode? It should be as easy as launching Dolphin, enabling "Continuous Scanning", then pressing 1+2 on the Wiimote (or the red sync button at the back if it's a -TR Wiimote).

If that didn't work and you also couldn't get Bluetooth Passthrough working (have you tried forcing the adapter?), then yes, the BT dongle you purchased is likely using an IC that doesn't play nice with Wiimotes.

Edit: oh, I remembered something important. Bluetooth 5.3 is fairly new and apart from some Wi-Fi + BT combo cards for laptops, I'm not aware of any standalone USB adapters using ICs from known brands (CSR/Qualcomm, Intel, Mediatek, Realtek, etc.). I've stumbled on a few chinese adapters using the ATS2851 SoC from Actions Semiconductors and yeah, those ones are terrible. The ATS2851 was designed for audio devices (headsets, BT speakers, etc.), not to work as a general purpose BT adapter, and as result, a lot of things don't work at all and sometimes you can't even find drivers for the bloody thing.

The TL;DR is to avoid those standalone USB adapters claiming Bluetooth 5.3 support, at least for now. You might have better luck with slightly older ones (e.g. BT 5.0, BT 4.2, etc.). I don't know if it's still available nowadays but the Orico BTA-403 performed exceptionally well with anything I've thrown at it, including Wiimotes...

it came in the mail, wiimote is visible, but it wants a PIN... i tried 1234 and 0000 to no avail.

I actually prefer using a conventional gaming controller to play Wii games on Dolphin. However, I've been eying this adapter made by Mayflash that simulates the Wii sensor bar that's meant to be used on PC to connect your Wii remote to. I've never used this product before, but I've been buying Mayflash accessories since 2014, and can vouch for their products' quality and have never ran across a problem due to its reliability.

Get a ub400 or ub500. Easy to find and works fine.

I've never used this product before, but I've been buying Mayflash accessories since 2014, and can vouch for their products' quality and have never ran across a problem due to its reliability.

Regarding the Dolphin Bar, it works reasonably well, but it's not a flawless product. It can have issues to connect to Wiimotes not made by Nintendo (e.g. fake and 3rd party ones), the IR LEDs might burn out prematurely and it's not possible to get perfect speaker audio (it'll work, but choppy). Also, it can't be used with Bluetooth Passthrough mode, only the regular "emulate a BT adapter" mode...

Ok, fair enough. Like I said before, I prefer to bypass the sensor bar altogether and just use a standardized modern-day game controller to play Wii titles.

Given that bluetooth passthrough's been a thing for a long while now, I'm a bit surprised Mayflash haven't released a new revision of the Dolphinbar that has a more passthrough-friendly adapter inside.
