Hi Dolphin Forums,

I am having some trouble playing Skyward Sword. The biggest issue is black screens that freeze the game (and Fraps counter) when Link transitions between areas. The errors have been noticed at the beginning of the game before meeting Zelda at the Goddess Statue and entering/exiting the cave to free Link's Loftwing.

Because I noticed auido stutters as well as crackling, I have been playing with a variety of settings. The black screens happen frequently and seem to be independent of the changes I have made. I can list those on request.

Please let me know if anyone has advice for the black screens and/or audio.

With regards,

jleon088

My game black-screened when I used "Speed Up Disk Transfer Rate" under Game Properties. Make sure that is unchecked

Thanks Axxer,

I appreciate the comment! I will give that a try and post the result soon.

If you keep having issues, try reduming your game. I doubt that's the issue in this case since the crashes appear to be somewhat random (sometimes they happen at one area, others another), but its worth a shot if nothing else works.

Before that though, try:

1) an earlier revision (but not too early because then the graphics wil have issues). 7XX should be fine. 774 changes some stuff in the D3D11 backend, but I don't think this is the issue either.
2) Post up your settings so we can see what may be wrong (screenshots of all tabs under Graphics and the General and Audio tabs under Config).

Unfortunately, unchecking Speed Up Disc Transfer Rate in the game's properties has not alleviated the crashing. However, I did get one message out of three attempts. In the upper left corner, Dolphin said "Clearing coding cache." I hope that means something to you guys lol Idea

Please kindly continue to assist,

If you're using savestates, play without them and see if the issue goes away. You may need to start the game over and only use the real game saves.

This. Save states are unpredictable, so it could very well be the cause.

Your settings look fine to me. I only wish I had that GPU. Looks epic.

Hi Starscream,

Cool username Wink . Yes! I was testing with a save state to understand if crashing changed. I will look at it without any.

As a note, I crashed frequently but not every single time using a save state. Particularly, I did not see black screens when my Framelimit was set to None, at least until I restarted Dolphin.
