Hello forum readers,

I have a problem with Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii: It won't run. (Not New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Newer is a package that can be run on the Wii using the Riivolution channel; it contains 9 new worlds full of new levels. Now that I can't run homebrew in Dolphin I decided to use a program that can create a Wii plain iso of the package out of a LEGALLY OBTAINED New Super Mario Bros. Wii iso. This program extracts the iso, replaces the files and then retransfers it into a new iso image.)

The New Super Mario Bros. Wii iso works, Newer Super Mario Bros Wii iso does not work. (When running at exactly the same settings). It should, I have been able to do the same tricks to MarioKart Wii; those iso's with the packages (with new courses etc.) run perfectly.

This is what is added to the log when running Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii:

The rest is exactly the same as when running the orginial New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The program I created the iso with did not encounter any problems, so I think the problem lies in here. (The first line might be some kind of error, I don't know).

Hope someone can help fix this cause I really want to play the Newer package.
Thanks for any given replies.

Have you verified your image is good via hashing?

Try this software (I have never tried it):
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

or

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Wii_ISO_MD5_Generator

What i dont know is where the known good hashes are. Anyone?

Actually there's a script that will build it for you. http://filetrip.net/wii-downloads/tools-utilities/download-nsmbw-mod-iso-builder-103-f32169.html

note the Known Issue: (in README.txt)
README.txt Wrote:Known Issue:
.iso output seems to be bugged for some people, the resulting .iso is good for use
by backup manager to transfer to USB HDD, but trying to load it directly (via burned disc,
or emulator, etc.) seems to fail, unsure why.
.wbfs output file seems to work perfectly though.

Yeah, in that first thread I linked to someone said they had to create a wbfs and convert it to iso. The very last post is an an updated patching script, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks people, I will try the .wbfs output.
Anyway, the program I used was downloaded from a yoútube video, where someone explained how to turn your SMBW iso into a Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii iso.
I saw it has problems with Windows 8, so I ran the program on my Windows XP Virtual Machine, that worked fine. The same program I used can also be used to create iso's for five other Mario Bros. packages.
For MarioKart Wii, I used a same kind of program which turned your MKW iso into a new one, packages and the program can be downloaded from the Custom Mario Kart site, be sure to use your LEGALLY OBTAINED iso to create your Mario Kart Wii Fun or Retro package. Those ISO's will run perfectly; though they can give random emulator crashes and destroy your MKW savegame. But it's worth a try for who loves MKW. Smile
Now let's search for a program who does the same for Mario Galaxy. Will be harder, cause the Mario Galaxy 2.5 package is not out yet, only a demo.

The custom MKW tracks and the patcher for them work pretty well. If you select the option in the script, they will have there own saves, separate from the original. I hadn't heard about galaxy 2.5. That looks like fun. Anyway, I hope you can get a copy of newer to work.

Well I have good news for you, a .wbfs for Newer worked for me! Yes I have seen that you can use a seperate save for Newer, and for other Mario Bros. and MarioKart mods. Since some of these mods have the ability to destroy your existing savegame, I just use a new one for Newer.

O and Mario Galaxy 2.5 exists, but is it not out yet. You can find a link for a demo in one of those Youtube video's about it; I haven't found a patcher yet that can create a .iso or .wbfs with those new levels and stuff, so for now it won't be playable. I can do some research in replacing files in the Mario Galaxy 2 (!) iso, but that will of course take a lot more time than a patcher. Let's hope one will be found or be placed online soon. Cause yeah, new levels for Super Mario Galaxy 2, who does not want that? Smile

Yet a question about Homebrew: I have been able to install the Homebrew Channel in Dolphin using a .wad; when I tried to run a Homebrew app it gives an error, saying "Try LLE Emulator if this is Homebrew". Is there a seperate emulator or seperate software to be used with Dolphin that will allow you to run Homebrew apps in Dolphin? Or will it just not be possible at all? Would be very nice if it does, cause using the Riivolution Channel or the CTGP Revolution Channel (for Custom Mario Kart) would allow you to use your original MKW iso; instead of having to create one for every custom track pack. This would save a lot of space on your hard disk drive. And, of course, there are lots of other nice homebrew apps I would like to use.
Why not install it on my Wii? Cause it might permanently brick my Wii. I can reinstall Dolphin if Homebrew apps would get my emulated Wii bricked, but it isn't always possible to recover a bricked Wii, meaning it will be useless for the rest of our lives... I might buy a second Wii for a little price (second-handed); then I will of course install the Homebrew Channel and all the other stuff.

Thanks for all replies people, I really apprieciate that. I've been on forums where you can post something and then wait five years for someone to reply. Good to see that this forum is very active.
