it's not overrated and from what I can see in places like these forums and others, people tend to just shit on it because it's not ocarina of time and that they are land people. I liked the islands and the open world sailing aspect tbh, would be cool if they implemented it in to later games. ( botw could have used more outlaying islands with stuff to do around them and gigantic sea beasts to conquer some underwater cavern secret parts, instead of treating sea as a vast hindrance with literally nothing to do on it )

Yeah, The Wind Waker has it's fair share of issues, but I think the Wii U HD edition did a fair job at addressing a lot of them. Examples such as faster sailing, less using the Wind Waker at sea (hence the improved sail), faster animations for items, improved item mapping (the sail and Wind Waker have permanent buttons for example and do not take up any of your precious 3 item slots). They also did remaster the soundtrack. And most importantly, the tri-force quest has been shortened. Still... The Wind Waker lacks some dungeons. Only five of them and Ganon's Castle which is some sort of remix of the previous dungeon themes. It is always a downside when a Zelda game does not maintain a reasonable amount of dungeons. Twilight Princess has at least nine dungeons. So does Ocarina. A Link to the Past and A Link Between World have a huge amount of dungeons. Even Link's Awakening and the Oracle games have eight-and-a-half dungeons each. So yeah, The Wind Waker is lacking in dungeons. So does The Minish Cap and Majora's Mask. Even Skyward Sword seems to go down to seven dungeons. It is a different story for Breath of the Wild through since the whole wide world itself is some form of dungeon (not to mention a massive amount of 120 shrines to complete, excluding DLC's). So um, definitely not overrated. If anything I'd say it's underrated! Mechanically it is novel and fun, and after 100 hours of mostly meh padding, the last 6 hours are fantastic! Skyward Sword is definitely not overrated. It's been one of the most divisive Zelda games alongside Zelda 2.

I like Skyward Sword as well as any other Zelda game. It was fun, not my favorite, not my worst experience. Honestly didn't mind the linear nature and the limited exploration. Hated Fi. Loved the overall journey. My biggest complaints are actually against those Silent Realms, just flat-out annoying.
Would have loved a lefty-mode; it really shouldn't have been that hard to add. I've seen tons of games with "mirror modes" as official cheats/unlockables. 03-31-2018, 12:26 AM
Wouldn't mind a HD version of Skyward Sword on Switch using JoyCons.
From France with love.

I'm a lefty and I've had absolutely no problems with the controls. I loved the Silent Realms, the suspense made it better than any of the tears of light sequences in TP. I'd like to see it on the Switch, but only if the swimming controls are improved. (03-31-2018, 01:29 AM)CDI Wrote: I'm a lefty and I've had absolutely no problems with the controls. Makes no sense not to include a mirror mode though. And it just sucks that Link has been made a righty for the past few games, when he was basically the most prominent lefty video game character. I was surprised by Link's handedness in BotW, since the justification for his being right-handed in TP and SS was "motion-controls" for swordplay, but that's non-existent in both the Wii U and Switch versions. Silent Realms were easy, but I just hated doing them. I know it's supposed to break up the pace of the game, but it just felt like it did so in the wrong way. Any kind of mini "collect-a-thon" is the wrong approach IMO, and it's why I couldn't stand the Tears of Light sequences in TP either. They're rather boring and feel like a waste of time. They feel uncreative too given that they basically use the same environments as the rest of the game just in a different "darker" world. 03-31-2018, 11:33 AM

Ambidextrous? Nice, is it innate or did you learn the other hand? I want to become ambidextrious so I'd like to know. And yeah, I see what you mean. I'm neutral about Skyward Sword anyways. 03-31-2018, 11:45 AM

Born right-handed, but I became interested in using both hands equally when I was just a kid (about 9 or 10). It's usually the other way around (lefties are more likely to adapt to a right-handed world, and thus are more likely to be ambidextrous). Can write pretty well with either one now, but I like to do plenty of stuff exclusively lefty sometimes. I dunno if I was just predisposed to be ambidextrous rather than trained to be, since a lot of stuff just feel "right" when I do it lefty. |
